2018 Rocky Mountain Bike Recall – Brake Defect

2018 is here and a recall just was issued on December 27, 2017 for Rocky Mountain Bicycles. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, The brake cable housing was not secured properly during manufacturing, which can cause brake failure, posing a crash hazard to the rider.

2017’s affected models include the Pipeline, Altitude, and Instinct mountain bikes.

The company is recalling 3,100 bicycles that were sold in the U.S. and Canada. The malfunction could be extremely dangerous if the brakes malfunction and fail, putting the rider in jeopardy of a serious crash. Rocky Mountain Bicycles want to avoid the chance of any accidents, so they are recalling the bikes now. There have been no incidents or injuries reported as of the announcement.

How to Identify the Affected Mountain Bikes

If you have a Rocky Mountain bike, the name is visible in several different places: on the down tube, the logo can be found on the headbadge on the headtube, and the platform family name is on the seatstay for identification. The bicycles are made of carbon and aluminum and were manufactured in Canada and Taiwan between the months of June and November 2017.

All of the bikes were sold from Rocky Mountain dealers, and the costs ranged from $2,600 to $7,300. If you have one of these bicycle models from Rocky Mountain, do not use the bike in this original condition. Contact an authorized dealer in your area, and simply bring the bike into the shop, and they will inspect and repair the brake housing at no cost to you.

If you do not have a Rocky Mountain dealer in the area, all consumers can contact Rocky Mountain from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday at 866-522-2803.

Consumers can also email for information at info@bikes.com. Whichever way you want to contact Rocky Mountain, do so before you ride again!
