Bay Area Bicycle Law is actively involved with area bicycling coalitions, cycling events, and legal advocacy on behalf of cyclists throughout California. It is our goal to make streets safer for cyclists everywhere and to that end, we sponsor the following bike organizations: San Francisco Bike Coalition, Bike East Bay, Silicon Valley Bike Coalition, Marin County Bike Coalition, Sonoma County Bike Coalition, Napa County Bike Coalition, Bike Santa Cruz County, and the California Bike Coalition. These coalitions are instrumental in getting more bike-friendly roads in their local areas, as well as educating the public on bike safety.

Each year, our attorneys attend bike events such as Pedalfest, the Peralta Community College District’s Bike Safety Week, and Tour de Marin, where we answer questions about bike laws, encourage safe cycling, and hear from cyclists about the challenges they face. We enjoy educating the public on bike laws to guarantee that cyclists are both law-abiding and safe.

This year, we were the presenting sponsor for Bicycle Advocacy Day in Sacramento, CA. Along with the California Bicycle Coalition, we encouraged CALTRANS and our elected officials to support more bicycle education programs and increase the state’s Active Transportation Program, which provides new and safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

Unfortunately, California laws have failed to keep pace with the realities of the road. Every year, more and more cyclists are taking to the streets for a variety of reasons – to get healthy, to make the earth cleaner, or to dodge traffic. While bicycles continue to be treated the same as motor vehicles in most legal respects, the reality of riding a bike is very different from driving a car. Therefore, we support those organizations that push the legislature to implement necessary changes to make the streets for safe cycling.
