Compensation for California Cyclists after a Hit and Run
We have a page dedicated to hit and run bicycle accidents. That page explains ways victims of hit and run collisions may be compensated after the crash. In the event the driver who hit you or your loved one can not be found, and you have Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UIM) on your car or truck, you may be able to seek some compensation for your bicycle related injuries through your own insurance company. If the driver is located (or turns themselves in) you may then seek compensation for your injuries.
Many people are scared after hitting a cyclist, but drivers should know that they have insurance for a reason. And, of course, they should stop to render aid to any cyclist after a crash. It’s obviously the right thing to do and it’s also the law. Depending on the severity of the cyclist’s injuries, you could end up in prison for years if you flee the scene of a bicycle crash in California.
