Sacramento Cyclist Injured, Driver Charged with Marijuana DUI
On Saturday, June 16, 2018, a cyclist was stuck by a car in Sacramento. The driver who hit the cyclist was arrested and charged with DUI. Police believe the individual operating the vehicle was high on marijuana at the time of the crash.
According to CBS Sacramento, the Natomas cyclist is in critical condition. Our hearts go out to this cyclist and his family. Hopefully this cyclist can recover and get back on the road.
Marijuana DUI in California
In 2017, California approved Prop 64 making marijuana legal. However, people should not drive while high on marijuana, just like they shouldn’t get behind the wheel while drunk. California Vehicle Code 23152(f) states that “It is unlawful for a person who is under the influence of any drug to drive a vehicle.”
Much like alcohol, people injured by an individual under the influence have a right to seek compensation for the negligent acts of others.
