Bicycle crashes involving multiple vehicles:
The above crash is very unique and we won’t speculate on who is at fault. The information below may or may not apply. But here are some important points:
- In some cases it is very clear what happened, and in other cases it is really tough to tell what happened and who is to blame for what.
- When there are three or more vehicles involved in a crash there is often a lot of finger pointing taking place. In addition to there being multiple vehicles, there are multiple accounts for what occurred and multiple insurance companies involved.
- California is a comparative fault state. You can read more about assigning fault percentages here.
Hit and Run Bicycle Crashes:
Unfortunately, hit and run crashes are increasing. If you’ve been injured in a bike crash, you should know that there are often options available to you even if the hit and run driver isn’t found, such as your uninsured motorist coverage (if you have it). If the driver is caught, you can seek compensation from them and their insurer.
In the event the hit and run driver is apprehended, you can hold them liable. Aside from that, they’re looking at significant time in prison if found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident involving a serious injury or fatality, a felony in California.
