Marin County Open Car Door Collision Settlement in March 2014

March, 2014 – Driver of motor vehicle was parking on major street in Marin County and suddenly opened his door into the path of a cyclist in the bicycle lane.  Cyclist’s injuries, including pneumothorax and other serious laceration required minor surgery.  Driver’s insurance company, State Farm, accepted responsibility for the accident but made an offer but that was grossly insufficient to fully compensate the cyclist.

Result:  After filing a claim and extensively developing/presenting evidence of the driver’s negligence and cyclist’s injuries, Bay Area Bicycle Law forced State Farm to pay the cyclist a large confidential six-figure settlement.
