Car Crash In Truckee Kills One Cyclist

A car crash resulted in the tragic death of one cyclist in Truckee early on June 10, 2018.

According to the Sierra Sun, this crash happened in the morning on State Route 89 near Cabin Creek Drive. Both the cyclist and driver involved in this crash were headed south. Allegedly, the Toyota driver swerved right and fatally struck the cyclist.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of this tragic accident. Officers did note, however, they don’t believe DUI was a major cause of this crash.

Rear-end Bicycle Accidents

While we can not be certain from the news report alone, this sounds like this may have been a rear end bicycle accident. Rear end bicycle accidents are one of the most dangerous types of collisions that a cyclist can be involved in. Motorists often hit bicycles from behind when they do not notice the cyclist or are distracted by their phone and drift into the bicycle lane. Unfortunately, rear end bicycle accidents frequently result in serious injury or death.
