New Bill requires drivers to pass cyclists with a minimum of 3 feet
Although Governor Brown has vetoed similar legislation in the past, this was due to language in the previous bills that stipulated slowing down to 15MPH when passing a cyclist. This new version is now without that language, so it may increase the chances it makes it past Gov. Brown’s desk! The Three Feet for Safety Act, sponsored by Steven Bradford of Gardena, is meant to protect cyclists from harassment from drivers who intentionally drive too close as they pass. Fines for a violation would start at $35.
